After barely three years, the hot-tempered NHL coach John Tortorella gets fired from Philadelphia Flyers.
He is replaced by the assistant coach Brad Shaw.
John played a vital role in the rebuilding of the team. When we now enter the next phase of team building, I feel that this was the best way forward, says general manager Daniel Briere to nhl.com.
Flyers have lost eleven of the last twelve matches and are last in Metropolitan Division.
Brad Shaw, 60, has long coaching experience in NHL but has only been head coach once before, a short period during the 2005-06 season in New York Islanders.
