"It was really tight. I fought with everything I had there at the end," he tells SVT.
The Åsarna IK skater won a thrilling duel with Norwegian Leopold Strand. The 20-year-old finished six hundredths of a second ahead of the home skater at the finish. The bronze medal went to Federico Pozzi of Italy.
Pettersson won his quarter-final, but then advanced to the final on time from the semi-final. Once in the final, the Swede took the lead straight away - a position he never relinquished.
"Once you get to the real final, you know that anything can happen. You're usually at your best in the final," he says.
