Petra Kvitova has celebrated many triumphs. But this year's US Open in the autumn will be the last performance on the big stage for the Czech, who has announced that she will end her career thereafter.
"There will come a day when it's time for a new chapter and that time is here now," writes the 35-year-old on Instagram and continues:
"Tennis has given me everything I have today, and I will be eternally grateful for this beautiful sport that I love."
Kvitova won Wimbledon in 2011 and 2014, played the final in the Australian Open 2019 and took a bronze in the Olympic Games 2016. At best, the Czech was ranked second in the world in 2011.
