About 93 percent of the votes from last weekend's election have been counted. The top two of the 35 candidates in the presidential election will advance to the next round.
The former president's daughter, Keiko Fujimori, is leading with 17 percent. Behind her, there is a close fight between leftist candidate Roberto Sánchez Palomino and ultra-conservative Rafael López Aliaga.
15,000 votes are to be recounted after a chaotic election that in some places had to be extended due to a lack of materials. Four people were arrested after a raid on Friday on suspicion of violating election laws.
However, EU election observers have not reported any electoral fraud.
