It was in February that the 48-year-old, four-time Grammy-winning singer and songwriter was forced to cancel a sold-out concert in Lima after being rushed to the hospital with an unknown stomach ailment.
Shortly after her hospital stay, excerpts from her medical record began circulating on social media, which sparked strong criticism from fans and led to an official investigation being launched.
The clinic that treated Shakira has now been fined around two million kronor, announced local health authorities on Wednesday.
Just two days after her hospital stay, the star was back on stage in the Peruvian capital. The clinic where she was treated then launched an internal review of what they themselves called a "serious ethical violation of our code of conduct and regulations regarding the handling of personal data."
Shakira is currently on her first world tour in seven years, titled "Las mujeres ya no lloran" (Women no longer cry).
