The person was one of the passengers aboard the cruise ship Hondius, according to Bonnie Henry, the provincial health officer for British Columbia.
"It's certainly not what we had hoped for, but it's something we've planned for," she told CBC on Saturday.
The person reportedly developed mild symptoms two days ago and was therefore taken to a hospital, where they tested positive and were isolated.
Three Hondius cruise passengers have died from the hantavirus. Former passengers are being isolated in several locations around the world.
