A person has been detained following an operation the other day in the Stockholm area, says Säpo's press spokesperson Jonathan Svensson.
According to Säpo, the person is detained on reasonable suspicion of espionage, which is the lower degree of suspicion.
Säpo cannot answer whether it involves a man or a man, or whether the person has Swedish citizenship.
Due to the secrecy of the preliminary investigation, we do not have the opportunity to go into details at this stage, says Jonathan Svensson.
Advocate Anton Strand is the public defender of the suspect.
Right now, I cannot say anything, says Strand to Expressen.
Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M) says in a written statement that the government has been informed about the Säpo operation and the detention.
"It is, of course, a serious crime suspicion. The investigation must now have its course, and I cannot anticipate it. The government is continuously informed and is in close contact with the responsible authorities", says Strömmer.
Espionage means that a person secretly gathers information that can harm the security of the exposed nation, and then passes it on to a foreign power.
