Perseus Karlström traveled to Brazil to participate in the ongoing Team World Cup.
Once there, the 35-year-old came down with the flu and has now had to withdraw from Sunday's competition in the capital, Brasília.
"We don't want to risk anything, and there's still a lot of the season left," he wrote on Instagram.
Karlström became European champion in the 20 kilometers in Rome in 2024 and has won World Championship medals in both 20 and 35 kilometers.
