Hungarian Bence Venyercsán was well on his way to bronze, but after violating the rules, he was sent to the so-called penalty box. There he had to stand for four minutes, which allowed several competitors to pass him.
One of them was Swede Perseus Karlström, who, however, did not have time to pass Frenchman Aurélien Quinion, who took bronze in 2:59.29.
Karlström finished fourth, as did three other Swedish athletes during the championship. He finished in 3:00.18, which is a Swedish record for the distance.
The gold was won by Italian Massimo Stano in 2:56.49, and the silver went to Spaniard Miguel Ángel López in 2:56.57.
Fanny Roos, shot put.
Daniel Ståhl, discus.
Oskar Edlund, 400 meters hurdles.
Perseus Karlström, race walking.
