A person in Strängnäs was granted permission by the police in the winter of 2023 to import a machine gun of the type Zastava M53 from former Yugoslavia for use in hunting.
When the police realized the mistake, the permit was revoked, in December last year, and the weapon was seized. The owner appealed but now the Administrative Court has ruled in favor of the police, reports P4 Sörmland.
The eleven kilo heavy machine gun has a caliber of 7.92 x 57 millimeters and is based on a weapon used by the German military during World War II, MG42.
In the owner's home, eight ammunition belts for 50 cartridges each were also found.
The imported weapon had been modified from fully to semi-automatic, but according to the police investigation, it could easily have been changed back again.
