Eight celebrities head out into the wilderness in "Expedition Wilderness" on Kanal 5 and HBO Max. In pairs, without a phone or other contact with the outside world, they were to survive for three weeks. Without much in the way of supplies.
"We were given a very, very limited supply of oatmeal, lentils and beans. It was a challenge trying to figure out how to get by on that. We were given no matches, no lighter fluid. It was the steel that mattered," says legendary football player Jesper Blomqvist, who teamed up with TV personality and author Patrick Ekwall.
Cried and crocheted
Jesper Blomqvist is from Västerbotten and had some knowledge of the conditions. It was worse for Perla Malmberg, who was paired with the artist Theodor "Theo" Haraldsson, and, without hesitation, admits that she knew nothing about nature beforehand. She suffered during her time in the wilderness.
Among other things, it was difficult for the influencer to pass the time without her phone.
"Theo had crossword puzzles with him and I crocheted. But it was tough. We mostly cried and twiddled our thumbs and just waited for the evening to come," she says.
“Extremely stressful”
The hardships were tough, but the hardest challenge was the mental one.
"You've always been able to escape to your phone or escape to entertainment or escape to a person. And all of a sudden you were stuck with yourself and your thoughts and your demons. It was extremely stressful," says Perla Malmberg.
Jesper Blomqvist says that the lack of food caused his weight to plummet.
"You're used to always eating when you're hungry. And then you panic if you don't get it in five minutes. But here it was really just a few deciliters of oatmeal for breakfast. Then it was ten hours until dinner in the evening with some rice or lentils. Maybe a fish if you were lucky."
