”It's not about any banned substances”, she writes on Instagram.
According to herself and the Canadian swimming federation, she is being investigated for having breached the reporting of whereabouts.
”I want to emphasize that this investigation is about the reporting of whereabouts and if I have updated it correctly. I am and have always been a clean athlete”, she writes.
Penny Oleksiak is Canada's most successful Olympian on the women's side with one gold, two silver and four bronze. In World Championship contexts, she has taken nine medals in the long course, all in relay.
According to the Canadian swimming federation, Penny Oleksiak is not suspended, and the decision is made by herself so that the team will not be disqualified afterwards if she is found guilty. The Canadian federation writes: ”We stand behind her decision and believe that she is a clean athlete who has made an administrative mistake”.
The swimming in the World Championship in Singapore takes place 27 July-3 August.
