Denmark ended up trailing, both in regular time and in extra time, but equalized both times.

Then the luck ran out.

Rasmus Højlund hit the first penalty on the crossbar, Christian Eriksen equalized with the second, but then both Anders Dreyer and Mathias Jensen missed theirs.

When Michal Sadilek scored 3-1 in the fourth penalty shootout, the Czech Republic was able to celebrate its first World Cup qualification in 20 years.

Italy also won't be part of the World Cup celebration. Italy, like Denmark, lost on penalties away to Bosnia and Herzegovina, 1–4. It was 1–1 after full time and extra time.

Italy thus misses the World Cup for the third time in a row.
