The Pelicot case, where Gisèle Pelicot testified against her ex-husband in a highly publicized trial about mass rapes, is being staged as a play. It is now being shown, among other places, in Avignon, where the trial was held, and will then go on a European tour, reports The Guardian.
The performance, "The Pelicot trial: Tribute to Gisèle Pelicot" has been created by the director Milo Rau, who has been praised for his theatrical interpretations of trials, including the one against Pussy Riot.
Gisèle Pelicot testified against her ex-husband Dominique Pelicot, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison for having drugged and offered her to strange men to rape her over a period of ten years. Gisèle Pelicot's testimony contributed to a change in France's rape laws. She was recently awarded France's highest civilian honor, Knight of the Legion of Honor.
