Minister of Defense Pål Jonson (M) says that a peace agreement in Ukraine could give Russia the opportunity to move troops to the Baltic Sea region and thereby worsen Sweden's security situation.

- It is already a tense situation, but Russia now does not have the security and military freedom of action to pose an immediate threat due to its limitations in Ukraine, and because it is now consuming a lot of materiel and personnel. But that will not last forever after a peace agreement, Jonson tells SVT.

He does not rule out that the security situation could deteriorate after a peace agreement. Jonson emphasizes that it is of great importance that a peace agreement is, as far as possible, on Ukraine's terms, but an agreement would still mean that Russia can reallocate its military resources closer to Sweden.

According to the Minister of Defense, there are already signs that Russia is building up its military near St. Petersburg.

Pål Jonson says Russia will pose a long-term threat to both Sweden and NATO.
