The 25-year-old Paulina Nyström has played for the Swedish national football teams from U17 to U23. Now she, who has dual citizenship, chooses to be available for the Finnish national team instead.
I am half-Finnish. My mother is from Finland and I have always had a connection there. On holidays and Christmas Eve, there have always been Karelian pirogs, and there have been lullabies in Finnish. And if you have dual citizenship, you can play for Finland. It's not harder than that, Nyström explains the change of national team to Aftonbladet.
I have been in dialogue with the association that has made the process simple. We will have a phone call this week, me and national team captain Marko. They have shown a huge interest. It's really fun.
Nyström has played a total of 53 international matches in blue and yellow.
