Paul Thomas Anderson received the award for best director when the Directors Guild of America (DGA) presented its awards at a gala on Saturday.

Anderson received the award for "One Battle After Another" in competition with Ryan Coogler ("Sinners"), Guillermo Del Toro ("Frankenstein"), Josh Safdie ("Marty Supreme"), and Chloé Zhao ("Hamnet").

The DGA gala, along with the Golden Globe gala where Anderson also won the directing award, are usually among the main indicators of who will be honored at the Oscars later that year.
