An Italian judge has dismissed the charges against the Canadian Oscar-winning director and screenwriter Paul Haggis, three years after he was arrested by the police.
Haggis was arrested in Brindisi in 2022 after a British woman accused him of rape.
A false accusation is terrible. I have felt so bad for my family's sake, now I feel very grateful, says Haggis according to BBC after the verdict.
In a separate court case, Haggis was sentenced to pay approximately 78 million kronor in damages for having raped another woman in 2022.
Haggis has won two Oscar statuettes for the film "Crash". He has also written the screenplay for "Million dollar baby", which won an Oscar for best film, as well as for the Bond films "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of solace".
