I'm fine. You can hear that I'm fine, says Patti Smith when the news agency AP reaches her by phone the morning after the collapse.
The whole thing is horribly exaggerated, she continues.
The 78-year-old artist and Polar Prize winner is in São Paulo to promote the project "Correspondences", where she performs together with the Berlin-based group Soundwalk Collective.
Smith writes in an Instagram post that she has been suffering from migraines in recent days and felt dizzy before the performance.
According to Brazilian media, Smith collapsed on stage, lying there for a few minutes before receiving help. She later returned, in a wheelchair, and apologized to the audience for what had happened. She then announced that doctors had forbidden her to continue.
According to the organizers, Thursday's concert will take place as planned.
