Fischer did not want to get vaccinated against COVID-19 but still managed to participate in the 2022 Beijing Olympics - with the help of fake vaccination certificates. Tuesday's admission now has harsh consequences.
"Patrick Fischer has been dismissed as head coach of the Swiss national team with immediate effect," the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation announced on Wednesday.
The announcement comes just one month before the home World Cup in Zurich and Fribourg.
Fischer, who led Switzerland to four World Cup medals during his ten years in the role, is being replaced by Jan Cadieux.
