Patients at the forensic psychiatric clinic in Växjö were filmed having sex or meeting with their lawyers in private rooms. The large-scale, suspected illegal surveillance is said to have been going on for several years, writes Dagens Nyheter.

Earlier in December, the Kronoberg Region reported two employees at the forensic psychiatric regional clinic in Växjö to the police after it emerged that patients had been both monitored and mapped.

According to DN, this is a large-scale surveillance that has been going on for at least seven years, between 2015 and 2022. According to the newspaper, there have been cameras and hidden microphones inside visiting rooms intended for patients to be able to meet lawyers, friends and family in private.

Conversations with defense attorneys have likely been recorded, and cameras and microphones have been on even when patients had sex with their partners, according to DN's sources.

A preliminary investigation has been initiated against the two now suspended employees, one of whom was in a managerial position, regarding, among other things, unlawful wiretapping, misconduct and disloyalty to the principal.
