In March 2023, a doctor at a private clinic in Malmö anesthetized a 49-year-old woman for surgery. She suffered from oxygen deprivation and cardiac arrest and died two days later.
The doctor made several errors during the plastic surgery, according to the Court of Appeal for Skåne and Blekinge. The doctor administered drugs during anesthesia in a risky way, and the doctor's supervision of the patient was inadequate.
Record keeping also broke down, meaning the course of care cannot be reconstructed in detail, the court notes.
The doctor's license has been revoked. The doctor has been sentenced, as in the district court, to pay almost 460,000 kronor in damages to the woman's husband and adult children.
