The case involves a patient in his 70s who sought care for breathing difficulties. The examination showed pneumonia when the patient was actually having a heart attack. A week later, the patient sought care for the same symptoms, which was not evaluated.
When the patient sought care for a third time, widespread myocardial damage was discovered. This was the result of the heart attack during the patient's first visit. The patient died a few days later.
Oskarshamn Hospital has submitted a report to Lex Maria.
"The handling has exposed the patient to serious medical harm and may have contributed to the patient's death," writes Region Kalmar.
