The woman is now being isolated on Pitcairn and is showing no signs of illness, a spokesperson for the island group's government said.
The Pitcairn Islands are a British Crown Colony in the South Pacific Ocean, located approximately halfway between South America and New Zealand. The population is around 50 people.
"The well-being of our community is our top priority," the spokesperson said.
After returning to the United States, the woman flew from San Francisco to Tahiti and then to Mangareva in French Polynesia. From there, most tourists reach Pitcairn by hitching a ride on cargo ships, a journey of about 32 hours.
Three Hondius cruise passengers have died of hantavirus. Former passengers are being isolated in several locations around the world.
