The victims, who have intellectual disabilities, were defrauded of large sums of money online. Several people have now been convicted of fraud and other offenses - but all have been acquitted of the sexual crimes that were also included in the indictment.

According to the indictment, the victims were forced to perform sexual acts on themselves, prompting the prosecutor to demand several years in prison. However, the Värmland District Court disagreed, and acquitted all suspects on charges including aggravated rape and aggravated sexual assault.

However, the court convicted five people for their involvement in romance scams that targeted the plaintiffs.

One man and three women received suspended sentences and between 30 and 120 daily fines, while one man was sentenced to probation.

Two men and one woman were completely acquitted.
