Greenpeace was sentenced in February to pay the equivalent of just over SEK 3.2 billion in damages to Energy Transfer for protests against an oil pipeline in the US in 2016–2017.

An Amsterdam court has now rejected Energy Transfer's request to halt Greenpeace's counterclaim against the oil giant, allowing the organization to continue its fight against the damages claim, according to a press release.

The legal dispute has been ongoing for several years. For the environmental organization, which sees the lawsuit as an attempt to silence dissent, the billion-kronor fine represents an existential threat.

Energy Transfer transports and stores crude oil and fossil gas, effectively serving as the logistical backbone of the US oil and gas industry.
