A member has been shot dead inside the parliament of the Georgian separatist region of Abkhazia, according to the authorities.
Another parliament member was injured in the shooting, according to the region's leader in a press release.
The Russian-controlled breakaway region of Abkhazia is located in Georgia, but largely broke away from the country in conflicts that ended in 1993. Georgia lost control over the rest of the territory after a Russian military offensive in 2008.
Russia recognizes Abkhazia as an independent country, unlike most of the rest of the world.
