It is proposed that the Riksdag's security guards be given the right to body search visitors, reports Sveriges Radio's Ekot.

Following a number of protests in the audience gallery in the Riksdag chamber, an investigation was set up earlier this year. It was to make suggestions on, among other things, what could be done to prevent disturbances at public meetings of the Riksdag. The special investigator, Daniel Gustavsson, has recently submitted the results to the Speaker, Andreas Norlén.

The investigation proposes, among other things, that the Riksdag guards should perform a manual body search of visitors if there are special reasons.

The guards should not only be allowed to search for weapons but also for objects that could disrupt order in the chamber, such as banners and whistles.

Anyone who fails a security check should be expelled from the Riksdag, according to the proposal.

"I am glad that the investigation has arrived. Now we will prepare it," says Speaker Andreas Norlén in a comment to Ekot.

Last fall, a bag of tomatoes and red onions was thrown from the stands at Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M). Three people were later sentenced to daily fines.

After the incident, a safety net was hung in front of the audience gallery.
