The ballet dancers at the Paris Opera's two stages have gone on strike. The performances of "Paquita" and "Play", the latter choreographed by Swede Alexander Ekman, have been cancelled, writes Le Monde.
A large part of the dancers are participating in the conflict action, which comes inconveniently for the Paris Opera since the number of visitors increases as tourists flock to the French capital before Christmas.
The Paris Opera has two stages, the Bastille Opera and the Palais Garnier, and the loss of revenue since the strike began on December 5 is now over 4 million kronor.
Representatives of the striking dancers tell Le Monde that they are striking because they get too little time for rehearsals and preparations.
