Paracyclist Paige Greco, who won gold in the 2021 Paralympics, is dead – just 28 years old.

The Australian died at her home in Adelaide after a "sudden medical event," according to The Guardian's information from authorities in South Australia.

Paige Greco won gold at the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics in track cycling. She had health issues leading up to the Paris Paralympics last year and was not selected, but returned to elite competition this year. Greco competed at the Para Track Cycling World Championships in Brazil in October.

"While we are devastated by the loss, we are incredibly proud of who she was and the way she represented Australia," her mother Natalie Greco wrote in a statement.

Paige Greco had cerebral palsy (CP).
