Just days after Panama's men's national team qualified for this summer's World Cup, the country's football president, Manuel Arias, has been suspended after violating a previous ban he was given after he said a female star was fat.

The International Football Association Board (FIFA) has banned Manuel Arias from all football-related activities for six months and he has also been fined just over 230,000 kronor.

It is not clear what Arias said or did to deserve another ban. In early 2025, FIFA announced that he was banned for six months for calling midfielder Marta Cox fat. This was after Cox had been critical of the conditions for female footballers in Panama.

The new suspension means that Manuel Arias, for example, will not be able to attend when the groups for the Men's World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico are drawn on December 5 in Washington DC.
