Walid Ahmad was, according to his family, accused of throwing stones at Israeli soldiers on the occupied West Bank. He was never formally charged – and died after six months in Megiddo prison in March when he collapsed and hit his head.
An Israeli doctor, who has taken part of an autopsy report conducted by Israeli experts at the request of the Ahmad family, states that the boy suffered from extreme malnutrition. His body also showed signs of inflammation in the large intestine – which can be caused by starvation or scabies. According to the prison's healthcare department, Walid Ahmad had complained about inadequate food since December.
Walid Ahmad's family now hopes to get his body back home.
The Palestinian Authority (PA) claims that Israel is holding the bodies of 72 Palestinian prisoners who died in Israeli prisons. 61 of them have died since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023.
