Hamdi al-Najjar from Gaza suffered severe injuries in a widely reported, nighttime Israeli attack on the family's home at the end of May. His wife, pediatrician Alaa al-Najjar, was working at Nasser Hospital in the city when the attack was carried out. She was met by smoke and ruins, the house was on fire, and nine of her children had been killed. They were between seven months and twelve years old.
We could not identify them; they were all burned. A horrific sight, impossible to bear. What had the children done wrong? asked relative Ali al-Najjar in an interview with Qatari Al-Araby Al-Jadeed shortly after the attack.
Of the ten al-Najjar siblings, only eleven-year-old Adam survived. Now, the seriously injured boy has also lost his father.
