After a 12-hour debate in the Knesset, a controversial bill was passed on Monday imposing the death penalty on Palestinians convicted of terrorism offenses in an Israeli military court.
In a written statement from the Palestinian Authority (PA) Foreign Ministry in Ramallah, the criticism was strong: “The Ministry categorically rejects this legislation and believes it constitutes a serious and dangerous escalation.”
Furthermore, the PA claims that the death penalty paves the way for war crimes and institutionalizes "discriminatory and racist positions" that risk collectively punishing the Palestinian people.
