Pakistan's Information Minister Attaullah Tarar states that the negotiations on a lasting ceasefire with Afghanistan have not led to a "functioning solution". The statement comes after four days of talks in Turkey.

After clashes in border areas, the countries agreed earlier in October on a ceasefire. The countries have also agreed to hold follow-up meetings to ensure that the ceasefire is maintained.

After four days of negotiations in Istanbul, Turkey, Pakistan's Information Minister Attaullah Tarar states on X that the parties "failed to reach a working solution".

"Unfortunately, the Afghan side gave no guarantees. They continued to deviate from the core issue and resorted to blame-shifting", Tarar writes, among other things.

It is unclear how the Afghan Taliban regime views the outcome of the negotiations in Istanbul.

Attacks in border areas have claimed over a hundred lives and the countries have accused each other of escalating the situation.

The border between the two countries has been closed for more than two weeks, and only Afghans who have been deported from Pakistan have been allowed to pass.
