Pakistan's Information Ministry on X says the attacks were targeted at known hideouts of the terrorist groups IS and Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP).
At least 80 people have been killed in attacks on seven targets, Pakistani government sources say, adding that the death toll is expected to rise. The Afghan Taliban government, in turn, says that 11 children have been killed in the attacks, and a source tells AFP that the Pakistani figures are fabricated.
Pakistan said recent terrorist attacks in the country were the reason for the strikes early Sunday. Earlier in February, around 30 people were killed in an explosion in the capital, Islamabad, an attack claimed by IS.
