Pakistan says its military carried out “planned and calibrated” airstrikes in Afghanistan, without specifying where.
On the Afghan side, the attacks are reported to have taken place in the provinces of Helmand and Kunar. According to the Taliban regime, nine civilians were killed, “including women and children.”
According to Pakistan, the attacks were directed at "terrorists" and their hideouts. It is provisionally estimated that 22 people were killed, according to Pakistani statements.
Pakistan accuses the Taliban government in Afghanistan of providing a haven for the Pakistani Taliban, which regularly carries out attacks on its side of the border. The conflict escalated earlier this year, but the countries formally agreed to a ceasefire in March.
