It's sad. I will miss all my colleagues, and I will miss everything we wanted to say with the series. At the same time, I am incredibly grateful that we got to do it and for the success we have had, he tells TT.

Season four ended with White's character Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto announcing that he was fed up and was considering quitting the restaurant business. Now it's up to Sydney and the other colleagues to continue running The Bear restaurant in their quest for a Michelin star.

Chaotic evening

Season five takes place the next day. The eight episodes depict a single chaotic evening, as a storm nearly floods Chicago and the gang at The Bear - including Carmy - struggles to get food out to the guests who suddenly pour in.

I felt as soon as I read the script that this was an incredibly smart move. In this final evening, viewers can't catch their breath. We are in constant motion; there will be constant problems, and we have to work intensively to find solutions.

While everything falls apart around them, they must once again rely on each other.

It was an excellent solution, says Jeremy Allen White.

"No expectations"

The series was a huge success from the start, which came as a big surprise to White.

There were no expectations. We were in a bubble where we were doing something that meant a lot to us. And then the premiere came; there was a lot of fuss, and it was exciting. But despite that, we always managed to get back into the bubble, to get back to that feeling we had when we filmed the first season.

What has Jeremy Allen White learned over the years? Is he a good chef now? Well.

"I'm much better at handling a knife in the kitchen. On the other hand, I couldn't do anything before, so it wasn't that hard to get better," he answers.

But working on the series has also led to insights into what a tough profession it is to be a chef.

We've discovered how complex and difficult this industry is, how big it is, how everyone has to work together. And everyone has to be perfect. It's like a ballet in the kitchen.

And the really skilled thing is to be able to present the food as if everything were perfect, despite the chaos in the kitchen. It's a show that's put on every night for the guests. You have to appreciate that artistry and execution.
