Christopher Garplind is worried about the future of the awards galas. Now he will be leading P3 Guld for the second year. It would be great if the gala was still alive. But I don't know what needs to be done to make people care, he says.

P3 Guld will be held at Cirkus in Stockholm on January 16. Christopher Garplind will be the host for the second year.

New this year is that there will be fewer awards at the gala, which this year is one hour long. And it will not be broadcast on television, only on Sveriges Radio.

It's always such a great gala. Now you can watch all the numbers on YouTube and stuff afterwards. But it's clear that it's terribly boring, says Christopher Garplind.

“No one is watching”

Even galas like the Grammis and Kristallen are struggling with ever-lower viewership and are disappearing from linear television. Christopher Garplind, who is particularly passionate about galas, regrets this.

Nobody watches galas on TV and it's so boring. So when I was asked last year, I thought if I'm going to host a gala, maybe now is the time.

P3 Gold is just one of many things Christopher Garplind has going on. He broadcasts “Afternoon in P3” on the radio, has a new travel program on SVT that just premiered, and the entertainment panel program “Land of the Cyclops” airs on the same channel every Friday night.

Writing a novel

In short, Garplind is very busy and says that he constantly turns down offers to appear in various entertainment and reality TV shows. He was also turned down when several publishers contacted him and asked if he wanted to write a novel.

But then there was some kind of economic crisis in the world and my fixed mortgage loans stopped being fixed.

So out of financial necessity, he accepted a publishing contract with a large advance.

But I've burned every penny on overpriced hotels in Manhattan and spicy margaritas. Unfortunately.

How are you going to get out of this?

I don't know. I just pushed my deadline back a year. We'll see.

Maybe Christopher Garplind needs more order in his career plan, but he thinks it's difficult to have time to structure it.

"The Land of the Cyclops" is almost always on. This radio show is almost always on. And that fucking book. I haven't had much time to... There's just a lot of shit that has to be done all the time, he says, sighs and adds:

So then you do it. And then you have to think about the future later on. When you're canceled.

The nominations for P3 Gold will be released on November 18.

Correction: In a previous version, the incorrect length of the gala was stated.
