Oxford University recruits volunteers for first Bundibugyo Ebola vaccine trial

The participants will be “50 healthy adults aged 18-55,” the university writes. They will receive the vaccine and then be followed for a year, but the researchers are expected to have a good picture of how it works after just a few weeks.

This is the first potential Bundibugyo vaccine to reach this stage. It is based on research that previously resulted in the Covid-19 vaccine developed in the UK by Oxford University and the Swedish-British AstraZeneca.

Almost 900 people have so far been confirmed dead from Ebola in Congo-Kinshasa since the outbreak began in May.
