The dog, which had to be euthanized in 2025 after a passer-by raised the alarm, reportedly suffered from pain, extensive pressure sores and mobility problems. Prosecutors sought a conviction for aggravated animal cruelty, while the man denied the crime.
However, Kalmar District Court (the district court) judged that the situation was so serious that the owner could not have missed it. He has been given a suspended sentence and 70 daily fines totalling SEK 10,500 (about $1,000). He must also pay SEK 1,000 (about $95) to the Crime Victim Fund.
