Over one million people in Sudan have fled to the neighboring country of South Sudan during the ongoing civil war. This is stated by the UN's refugee agency UNHCR on Wednesday.
Many of those who have left Sudan are South Sudanese who lived in the neighboring country and who previously fled from the civil war in South Sudan.
More than twelve million people in Sudan have been forced to flee their homes during the civil war between the country's army and the paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The death toll in the war is difficult to calculate, but is believed to exceed 60,000 victims according to a leading British university in a study from last November.
UNHCR appeals to the international community for increased support to South Sudan to help those who have taken refuge in the country, as resources for housing, healthcare, and clean drinking water are dwindling.
