The boat was reportedly at sea for 26 days before it was found. It had set sail from Gambia with 128 people on board.
When the rescue operation arrived early Thursday, there were 45 survivors and five dead on the boat.
Spain's maritime rescue service Salvamento Maritimo said the boat was located by one of its aircraft on Wednesday afternoon.
