In total, 612 people are reported to have been rescued by Tunisian authorities in several operations off the country's Mediterranean coast during the night leading up to Monday after their boats capsized.
18 bodies have also been found.
According to the authorities, all migrants were from African countries south of the Sahara with Europe as their destination.
In images shared by the authorities, exhausted people, including women and children, can be seen.
Every year, tens of thousands of people attempt to cross the sea to Europe.
