At least 71 people have been confirmed dead after a severe traffic accident in southern Ethiopia, according to the local police in the Sidama region, 30 kilometers south of the capital Addis Ababa.
The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon when a truck full of passengers on the flatbed drove off a bridge and down into a river.
Fuzzy images shared by the health department show people standing around the partially submerged vehicle and trying to pull it out of the water. Other images show bodies lying on the ground, some of which are covered with a blue tarpaulin.
Traffic accidents are common in Ethiopia, whose roads are in poor condition.
