A flare-up of fighting has stranded over 400 tourists on the island of Socotra in the Indian Ocean, AFP reports.

According to media reports from Poland and Singapore, the tourists are stuck on the Yemeni island after all flights were canceled because of violent fighting.

The island, about 350 kilometers off Yemen's mainland, attracts visitors for its white beaches and ancient dragon's blood trees.

Civil war has raged in Yemen for more than a decade, but the situation has escalated in recent weeks. Saudi Arabia, a close ally of Yemen's internationally recognized government, has carried out several airstrikes, killing at least 80 separatists, the separatist movement STC said over the weekend.

The Swedish Foreign Ministry advises against all travel to Yemen.
