Over 400 people are feared to have been killed in the latest attacks by paramilitary RSF in the state of North Darfur in Sudan, according to sources at the UN.

Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have in recent weeks expanded their attacks on the refugee camps Zamzam and Abu Shouk as well as the regional capital al-Fashir in an attempt to take control of the city.

Our Sudan team has verified 148 deaths, but this is highly likely an underestimation since our verification work is ongoing, says Ravina Shamdasani, spokesperson for the UN Committee on Human Rights, to AFP.

Ravina Shamdasani further states that "credible sources have reported more than 400 deaths".

Meanwhile, UNHCR reported on Monday that the two-year-long civil war in Sudan between RSF and the military has forced millions of people to flee.

The conflict has caused the displacement of 13 million people, including 8.6 million internally displaced persons and 3.8 million refugees, says Abdouraouf Gnon-Konde, UNHCR's regional chief.
