At least seven people were taken to hospital after the drone attacks on Kharkiv on Friday evening. But overall, it's about 47 injured, according to the city's police.

The million-city is located in north-eastern Ukraine, just a few miles from the state border with Russia, and is regularly shelled.

Houses and cars were damaged, according to the authorities' account.

"Russia is targeting homes at a time when Ukrainians are at home, when they put their children to sleep", writes the Ukrainian region's governor Oleh Synehubov on social media.

Thermobaric weapons

According to Kharkiv's mayor, the Russian attacks were directed at twelve different locations in the city.

Kharkiv's prosecutor's office states that the Russian drones were equipped with so-called thermobaric warheads and that the attack may thus be a violation of international law. It is a type of weapon that releases fuel in a pressure wave that is then ignited by a second explosive charge.

Extensive attacks from the invasion forces are also reported in southern Ukraine, including in Kherson, where one fatality is reported.

Ukrainian attacks

Ukraine is also reported to have attacked Russia and Russian targets on a large scale. According to consistent reports from Ukrainian channels and the Russian military, nearly a hundred drones were sent towards the annexed Crimea peninsula during the night. According to a Russian account, drones from Ukraine were also shot down over five regions in Russia.

Five people, including two children, are said to have been injured in a drone attack on Russian Novorossiysk, which is located east of the Crimean peninsula on the Black Sea, according to the port city's mayor.
