Many of the sloths are said to have died because of poor conditions at a Florida detention center, according to a report from the state's Fish and Wildlife Service.

The remaining sloths were either dead when they arrived or arrived in poor condition and died later, according to the report.

Sloth World owner Ben Agresta denies the allegations, telling Fox 35 in Orlando that they lost sloths to a virus that barely showed any symptoms and was "undetectable even after autopsy."

Sloth World, with its rainforest-inspired setting, markets itself as the world's largest "Slotharium." It is unclear whether the exhibit will open as planned later this year.
