Over 30 have been killed in violent clashes in southwestern Chad on Wednesday. Several people were injured in the unrest in the Logone-Occidental region in northern Central Africa, according to the government's spokesperson Gassim Cherif Mahamat.

Security and defense forces were able to quickly intervene and get the situation under control, said Mahamat on Thursday.

Unrest, often with deadly outcomes, breaks out repeatedly in southern Chad, where, among others, certain religious groups, including Christians, feel marginalized by the central power. Clashes occur between Muslim nomadic groups fighting for land rights with local settler groups.
